Link, Glenview, Ill. Application July 22, , Serial No. Specifically the invention relates to an attachment for hand saws affording means for gauging the depth of cut made by the saw. Heretofore, depth gauging attachments for saws have been introduced but none of these prior devices have proved successful because of various objectionable features and characteristics which they were not able to overcome. Especially objectionable was the rather complicated and cumbersome mechanisms provided for adjusting or varying the gauge in accordance with the desired depth of cut. Also objectionable was the fact that many of the prior devices were so constructed that the adjustability of the depth determining mechanism was limited to but a few predetermined positions rather than to an unlimited number of positions within rather wide limits. Another object is to afford a depth gauging attachment for saws which is readily adjustable without necessitating the use of any auxiliary means or devices. A further object is to provide a device of the character described in which the depth determining means is adjustable universally to any predetermined position within the limits of the device itself.

More specifically, the invention proposes to provide the front section with a stud which engages through the back section, and proposes to form the adjacent faces of the sections with complementary inter-engaging serrations radially of said stud, and furthermore proposes to provide a wing nut threadedly mounted on the stud for clamping said sections together. With both the handles and the blades largely cut and shaped by hand, made by craftsmen and for craftsmen, I consider these saws to have been, aesthetically, the finest ever made. With their long horns and decorative beads and peaks, the handles were gracefully shaped and are very comfortable to use, feeling as though they were moulded to the users hand. The image at the top of this page shows some of the great variety of handle styles that were made over the years.
By the last quarter of the 19c industrial production processes became pre-eminent in saw-making, and I feel that the saws made then and later abandoned their focus on beauty and comfort and, even though they may have been made of better and more consistent steel, became more pedestrian tools. The earliest saws, as early as years ago in Egypt, had their handles force fitted onto a tang at the end of the saw blade and then pinned together.

Tools Through Time: The Hand Saw
Three carpenters were blown away by how fast the Shark can cut. Its pull-stroke cutting style is very accurate and easier to use than a traditional push-stroke saw. When it comes to cutting, this saw has no equal. It sliced through wood at least twice as fast as most of the other saws. On a single-blade stroke through a piece of pine, the Shark went 30 percent deeper than the second-place saw. In addition to being fast and aggressive, the Shark was the most precise saw we tested, cutting along a marked line with easy accuracy.

Item -Pocket Pruning Saw [above] had scales of Rosewood in the Catalogue, whereas previously they were of Boxwood. Below is the culmination of much work analysing the catalogues in order to produce a composite table depicting the MARPLES saws as listed against time. As I worked I eventually decided that I would only make a starting point at the Catalogue, as the previous item changes were just too horrendous to work through.
I carried the study through using just the hard copy Catalogues. Of necessity I have had to truncate the descriptions given in the catalogues to the saws and their individual components, otherwise I would never have space in the table to include all of the Catalogue details. Therefore below is a list of the short forms used:.

The Intertek calibration service provides the assurance that your instruments perform as stated in the datasheet. Calibration involves comparing the read values of a measuring instrument or data recorder with the corresponding values of a reference tool that meets the reference standards. The measurement error is documented on a calibration certificate, which serves as proof.
If the detected deviation is too large in relation to factory specification, adjustment of your data logger or measuring instrument will be required. Items which are on stock will be shipped out for calibration within 24 hours. Usually the time for the calibration of your device can be handled within 5 working days. This additional time for the calibration should be taken into consideration to your normal delivery time. After calibration is performed, you will receive an ISO certificate from Intertek, which is valid for 12 months.
